When drawing this design, I really wanted to try and capture the feeling I had when I first watched this episode as a kid. The Crystal Onix felt truly magical to me, and the fact that they still haven’t put it in any of the games – not even Pokemon Go, which wouldn’t be restrained by the Orange Islands existing or not – makes it feel even more ephemeral and mystical. It’s literally unattainable.
